Small Business Mentoring
I started my first small business in 2002. I had no business experience and hardly any money. I fretted about what I “needed” to do and felt blocked every time I picked up the ubiquitous “how to start your own business” books. Doesn’t being my own boss mean that I don’t have to follow these (often antiquated) rules about business plans?
Over 20 years later, I say yes, I don’t have to follow those rules. And neither do you.
I do not own a Fortune 500 company. But I have owned 6 small businesses in the SF Bay Area that survived and thrived through a recession and covid. I am not a multi millionaire, but I have the freedom to pick my son up from school every day.
And yes, I follow the rules. Just not the silly ones. My passion is for helping others with dreams of running their own small business with heart, work/life balance and make money of course!
Was I born with entrepreneurial spirit? Not exactly. As a kid I knew I loved making money and could hustle a good living babysitting and doing odd jobs (so odd in fact that I was paid to do everything from choreograph a kindergarten dance recital - I’m not a dancer -
Is there an entrepreneurial gene? We all have gifts that can make us successful entrepreneurs. I’m not sure anyone is born with the gene exactly - for some it’s about being a bold risk taker, for others, the ability to organize systems is key. Being a strong leader, good at hiring,
